Delaware could control the east coast because it had access to the Delaware River and the Delaware Bay. The Bay made it easy to trade by sea. Delaware also had many natural resources, it was extremely fertile, and they had great fishing. Delaware had a more advanced economy at that time. They had paper money signed by the governor and copper coins. They had shipbuilding, ironworks, trading and shipping, and lumber and timber industry as some of their main jobs. The social culture for Delaware was for everyone to get along. There was no room for interpretation of the norms of society, everyone worked to better the colony. The population continued to increase just like everything else. They weren't one of the larger states, but they were close in population and industry.

He studied law at the Temple in London because then he wanted to be a lawyer, but later he found that life wasn't for him. Dickinson was born into a wealthy family in Maryland. His father was the first judge to the Court of Pleas in Delaware.
